A Wonderful Welcome to Fifth Spiritualist Church

presented by Pastor Marilyn Kalna

I found my home here at this wonderful church. The first time I walked in, something felt familiar to me. This is, I will admit, quite unusual since I didn't even know there was such a religion as Spiritualism. However, I had found a religion that doesn't have many church laws. Church laws are man's laws, and I was more interested in God's laws. What is it God expects from me? What is God's law? I found here that God's law is Natural Law.

I had trouble with religions that claim to have all the right answers for everyone, and if you do not believe as they do then surely you would not be allowed into heaven. Well I now realize that there is not just one right way for each of us to walk. We are all on our Spiritual paths and they may each teach us something different. Sometimes when we take that wrong turn there is a very important lesson we learn.

I always thought that all the religions had common threads running through them, and they do. For instance, the Golden Rule is expressed in all major religions. The wording is a little different but it means the same thing.

In Confucianism:  What you don't want done to yourself, don't do to others.

In Buddhism:  Hurt not others with that which pains thyself.

In Hinduism:  Do naught to others which if done to thee would cause pain.

In Judaism:  What is hateful to yourself, don't do to your fellow man.

In Christianity:  Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.

In Spiritualism:  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

As you can see we are not so different in some of our beliefs. What is important is that you find what you are looking for with your connection with God.

In Spiritualism we say Infinite Intelligence or God. It doesn't matter what name you use but it is important to find that connection. All religions are good and I believe there is a reason for so many different religions.

I must admit my thought process was not so much about religion, but about my spirituality. I felt the religion didn't matter but who I am as a person does. I found a place to call home with like minded people. This religion fits me like a glove. I am very proud to be a part of this wonderful religion. It helped me to find a peace, joy, and balance in my life.

Spiritualism is about proving the continuity of life through Spirit communication.

That means life goes on after we make the transition called death, however we are still who we are with our personalities intack. Now, I must admit that is what first drew me in. I now get messages from my husband, daughter, mom and dad, sister and all my family members in spirit. How wonderful and comforting that is. I was always talking to them before but I wasn't really sure they heard me. Now I know they definitely did since I have received messages from them regarding all the things I would talk to them about before coming to this church.

I am never lonely anymore. With all those in Spirit, guides and family members I don't have time to be lonely. I have so much to learn and I feel I have been on this learning path my whole life but especially since coming to this church in 2004.

I enrolled in the educational course at the Morris Pratt Institute for the NSAC, which stands for National Spiritual Association of Churches. We have churches all across the United States. The founding and Incorporation of the NSAC was originally filed for in Washington D.C. November 1, 1893. It was filed under class 2, religious societies. The filed document was recorded in Washington D.C. on 11-3-1893. This was amended on 10-21-1985 to specify the term of the corporation for 1000 years and class 2 was deleted and class 1 was added.

I learned in Spiritualism that the spark of God is within each and every one of us. Life is what we make it. Surrounding yourself with positive energy is very healthful. The Law of Attraction is just one of God's natural laws. I learned so many things about the religion of Spiritualism that I now look at my life in a much different way.

A Spiritualist is one who believes as the basis of his or her religion, in communication between this world and the spirit world by means of mediumship and who endeavors to mold his or her character and conduct in accordance with the highest teachings derived from such communication.

There are only nine principles that the religion of Spiritualism states: They start with either I believe or I affirm. This is because Spirit communication is the basis of our principles and this is what we need to know now, this day in this time. That may change later, so we do not have any dogma or creed.

Our Principles

We believe in Infinite Intelligence (God).

We believe that the phenomena of Nature, both physical and spiritual, are the expression of Infinite Intelligence.

We affirm that a correct understanding of such expression and living in accordance therewith, constitute true religion.

We affirm that the existence and personal identity of the individual continues after the change called death.

We affirm that communication with the so called dead is a fact, scientifically proven by the phenomena of Spiritualism.

We believe that the highest morality is contained in the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

We affirm the moral responsibility of individuals and that we make our own happiness or unhappiness as we obey or disobey Nature's physical and spiritual laws.

We affirm that the doorway to reformation is never closed against any soul here or hereafter.

We affirm that the precepts of Prophecy and Healing are Divine attributes proven through Mediumship.

I am so grateful to God to have found this church and all who come here. I am honored to be a small link in the pastors of this church. I call upon all the past pastors here in the physical as well as those in Spirit to bring the highest and best to all.

Thank you!
